The Cape Breton Feminist Society is organizing a Take Back the Night March on Friday, September 25 at 6:00 PM, and we want our community to walk with us.
We will gather at 360 Prince Street (Provincial Government Building) at 6pm and march together to Open Hearth Park Amphitheatre, where we will come together for an evening of:
Speakers, Music, Art & creative expression, Collective Community Presence, and
A vigil to remember those we have lost and honour survivors.
Take Back the Night has a long history as a movement demanding that women and all people have the right to move through their communities without fear of sexual violence, harassment or gender-based violence. What began as grassroots activism in the 1970s has grown into a global movement, one that continues to call for safety, justice, survivor support and systemic change.
And that call is still urgently needed here at home.
Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission and the NS provincial government recognize gender-based and intimate partner violence as an epidemic, following a unanimous legislative declaration in September 2024.
We walk for those who have survived.
We walk for those we have lost.
We walk for those who cannot walk with us.
And we walk for a future where taking a walk home at night does not require courage.
Join us September 25 at 6 PM.
Bring your voice.
Bring your art.
Bring your music.
Bring your light.
Bring your community.
Together, we take back the night.
What started as an informal group online in 2020 as a place for safe conversations, connection, and community has grown into the Cape Breton Feminist Society, a registered non-profit society in Nova Scotia.
We’re a community-led, volunteer-run organization working to create a safer, more equitable, and inclusive Cape Breton for everyone!
Over the years, our group has come together to organize Take Back the Night marches, Women’s Marches, community conversations, education, and advocacy, and we’re excited to keep building on that work!
EVERY contribution, big or small, helps our volunteers keep creating spaces for connection, learning, action, and change
“Change is made of small acts, done by many people.”

I am sharing this because, as women, we deserve to know the realities that we are navigating. These truths are difficult, but awareness matters. Knowing what exists in the world is part of protecting ourselves, supporting one another, and refusing silence around violence.
